Uhm Hong-sik. Yoo Ah-In is a South Korean actor and creative director. He has built a unique filmography that distinguishes him from other actors of the same age, playing a series of impressive characters in films and TV series. Not only is he known as an icon of youth in Korea, but also he has made remarkable achievements in numerous industry awards.
Yoo is representing his generation by focusing on the growth of the characters he portrays, which is leading him to gain applause from the public. In the first year of high school majoring in fine arts, he was discovered by a casting agent in front of the school and came up to Seoul by himself to attend auditions. He then started to appear in teen-series Sharp and garnered a huge popularity from teenagers.
After that, however, he halted his activities for one year to think about his identity and the path of acting without being influenced by popularity. Returning with independent film Boys of Tomorrow and family-comedy Skeletons in the Closethe attracted a lot of attention of critics and viewers as a promising newcomer. Also, he had played various roles across films and TV series, such as a lonely assassin in Strongest Chil Wooa patisserie aspirant and former boxer in Antiquea young assistant at the architectural office in The Man Who Can't Get Marriedand a pizza delivery man in Sky and Ocean InYoo rose to prominence when he starred in Sungkyunkwan Scandalcreating a syndrome called 'Geol-oh Love Sickness', which earned him praise as a unique actor in his generation.
He was then cast in the coming-of-age film Punchmet with critical and commercial success, thereby cementing his status as screen star. This was followed by the first nomination for Best Actor in his career. For this role, he won multiple Best Actor awards, which he deserved more than anything. He plays the tragic Crown Prince Sado in the period drama The Throne, described by the director Lee Joon Ik as an actor with so much dissatisfaction and anxiety, who has an internal flame bottled up inside.
He has won and received Best Actor awards at influential film awards and ranked number two on Korea Power Celebrity 40 by Forbes. He was then cast in the historical drama Six Flying Dragons, which occupied the number one rating slot throughout its run. He played Noh Jin Woo, a Korean wave star in the ensemble cast film Like for Likes, his first romantic comedy since his debut.
This was also his first film directed by a woman, where he deeply discussed the topic of feminism with the director. This film depicts the stereotypical perception of women that is deeply rooted in Korean society. He then starred in the fantasy-romance drama Chicago Typewriter. He played the double roles of Han Se Joon, a famous present-day novelist, and Seo Hwi Young, the leader of a resistance group during the s Japanese occupation of Korea.
Inhe starred in Lee Chang Dong's film Burning, portraying a pure and sensitive young man, Jong Su, who tries to solve the mystery surrounding the woman he loves.

The director said the reason he cast Yoo Ah In is because of his undeniable talent in delivering emotionally charged performances. He received various nominations from domestic and international award-giving bodies, alongside praises from various movie critics. Inhe starred in a zombie thriller Alive as survivor Joon Woo, which premiered on June 24,and became the first film to surpass 1 million admissions since February prior to the outbreak of COVID in South Korea.
In Octoberhe starred in the low-budget indie film Voice of Silence, portraying Tae In, a mutism character without a single line throughout the film. For his role as a mute clean-up worker Tae In, Ah In has gained over 33 pounds 15 kilograms and shaved his head to better portray the role. His next role was that of the cult leader Jung Jin Soo in the Netflix series Hellbound which was released in November The series had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Primetime program of TV series in September and became the first Korean drama to make it to the festival.
He received various critical acclamations as he was dubbed to become a memorable antagonist and an actor who stole the spotlight.
