In the s, Kennedy, along with her university classmate Vanessa Vadim, Jane Fonda and Roger Vadim's daughter, founded a non-profit organization called "Mayday Media," specializing in the production and distribution of socially conscious films.
InKennedy and Liz Garbus established the company "Moxie Firecracker Films," which also focused on producing documentary films that shed light on pressing social issues. Kennedy made her directorial and producing debut with the documentary film "American Hollow" inwhich explored the impoverished Appalachian mountain region. The film received critical acclaim and numerous awards.
As a director and co-producer, Kennedy created "A Boy's Life," a story about a rural boy and his family in Mississippi. Inshe directed the documentary "Indian Point: Imagining the Unimaginable," which examined the potential catastrophic consequences of radioactive emissions from the Indian Point Energy Center, a nuclear power plant located 35 miles north of New York City.
Kennedy also served as an executive producer for the documentary film "Street Fight," which depicted the unsuccessful mayoral campaign of Democrat Cory Booker.
